Can someone explain to me how the hell is turning back your computers clock making something stealing?
This is maybe most hilarious comment I have ever heard.

Setting your clock back to access something which has been deliberately expired so as to make it unavailable seems to me to be stealing. Using something without permission is stealing in my opinion.

As for hilarity, stick to your own material ;)

Re: nobreakspace

You cant steal something that is accessible to you by any conventional means. Stealing is physically stealing something. For eaxmple warez is not stealing. Remember that... if you say anything else your just lap dog of all those MRAs etc.

If person can avoid such thing as expiration by turning their clock back it is for damn sure not stealing, it is only loophole in the makers system which usage is totally legal!! Stealing is not!

Another example is installing firefox 2... it doesnt have such expiration system in it at all... buuhuu to anyone who makes such addon that cant even have expiration in it.

If person would access addons code and change it without permission of the author it would be illegal (still not stealing anything as you cant steal immaterial things like rights). Changing clock back or using tools that can go around of such restrictions without tempering with the code is completely allowed and legal on any juristriction (or what evah it is called).

So please think what ever you like, I think those who are gaining what they need by being smarter than people who have paid dont deserve to be called stealers. I find it highly insulting.

I can see why you might be insulted by the label. I would be if i were a thief; then again, i'd also try not to be stealing in the first place so i wouldn't *be* a thief. In fact i'd be ashamed of myself that i didn't shell out the few dollars that Polo asks for as a donation to keep his work going. BlackWolf: He clearly wants people to pay for the extension, therefore, you not paying for it constitutes theft of his intellectual property and unlawful use. Just because you happen to find a loophole doesn't make it legal... that's just exploiting a loophole. It might not necessarily make it illegal but it constitutes theft in my opinion, and that leaves you, again in my opinion, a thief. ***

*Goes in circles again and again and again*

***EDIT: A good example I thought of is 'stealing' wireless from your neighbour. Sure they haven't secured it from you and other people and it's their fault; but they *clearly* intend that it is not for public use and that they do not intend for everyone to be using it. Despite all that I'm not sure if it is in fact illegal to 'steal wireless' in the eyes of the law; but it is nevertheless a criminal action in my eyes and is still theft and makes the user a thief. Just the same as in the case here. You are using the addon which he obviously would like people to pay for by exploiting a loophole in the newer version of FF with the expiry date (as you yourself said!). Whether or not this is 'illegal' in the eyes of the Bushtarion community or Polo is unclear; but IN MY OPINION and according to how i feel about stealing and thievery in general, I consider using it without paying for it is illegal and possibly theft.

If you take this personally then there's not much I can do about it; it's my opinion and I see no need to change it. If you feel particularly aggrieved by this then I can only offer my apologies and suggest that you simply pay for the addon.

Re: nobreakspace

Alci: Thief as a word means a person who is stealing from someone else something. I have not stolen anything from Polo. What I have is a bit of code he let me download from his website. I have not agreed, written down or anything else of any kind of contract. And in that case I would then it would be breaking of contract or such. Not a theft.

As such I find it very very insulting of calling me a thief. From smaller things than such insult people have been sued to court. I wish that think what ever you like, but you stop insulting me and others of being thieves when in eyes of any european country (where I and Azzer lives) and united states (where server relies) we have not made a theft!
Thank you.

In Finland after law change downloading and sharing someone elses copyrighted material is illegal, it is also illegal to use any tools or any kind of unusual means circulate around protection that is put on some software. Turning back your computers clock is for damn sure not going around any protection, same goes specially for using older firefox version.
Even if I would be convicted of such crime, it would be called breaking of others copyrights NOT THEFT!
If I would go to shop and fysically steal something let it be how small OBJECT then you can come here to call me a thief.

PS. Remember this is an open forum and whom ever may come here to read this stuff, you dont need to be registered. As such insulting of others from such crime is serious accusation. You could call me what ever names you like but connecting real crime to me is not one of those things.

It is only 1.5 weeks when last time people were convicted on court of such insult of spreading rumours of another person. There is no anonymity, like it or not.

Re: nobreakspace

 I cant believe this thread has come to this (Oh wait...yes, I can!). I can see Alci's point, that it is unfair and taking something that was not intended for you, which is related to theft. Did he say that any one in particular is a thief? Taking something that isn't intended for you is at least a moral issue. It doesn't surprise me that you see nothing wrong with it BW. Get your lawyer to scan these forums....Im sure lots of other people have called you worse.

Re: nobreakspace

While technically it could be classified as one of the statements which basically goes in the vein "Any actions taken by you with the intention of gaining access to something for which you do not have permission to" may be able to vaguely cover changing of your PC clock to get around a built in time-check on a copyrighted piece of material, other laws covering the ability to control and customise your own stuff you own (eg your personal computer) would pretty much negate them... in other words, by trying to apply a law of copyright to somebody changing their PC clock, you would in essence by trying to claim that they are breaking the law by changing their PC clock, which in itself is a ridiculous claim, and more than me putting my alarm clock forward 10 mins for the old "wake up and think you're late trick" would be illegal.

In other words, both sides of the argument are utterly ridiculous, and as nobody will see this the argument is going in circles because both sides are trying to prove the other side is ridiculous.

(Morality is very different to legality, and I'm sure almost everyone would agree that anyone trying to rip off Polo/his hard work is certainly immoral, to one degree or another.)

So can we stop the thief talk and discussions please, they're going nowhere and considering copyright laws definitely differ from country to country and are so incredibly hazy when it comes to "personal use" over actually distributing something that not even judges or lawyers can decide the reality of what is illegal or not, it's pointless for us to discuss it here :D

Re: nobreakspace

when the hack is parsed it seems to be a long way out in stealth troops (or funds)

Visible Staff Total: 13,926,396
Visible Staff Cost: £54,137,837,000
Stealth Troop Cost (or max funds): £115,492,557,000
AR Funds Limit (with 0% AR mod): £270,054,046,500
Gather Intelligence:
Target ID(s):

System hack on my ID [xxx] successful:
Staff
Gardener [9,962,100] Harvester [997,455]
Hippy [1,586,411] Yob [393,538]
Wheelbarrower [99,892] Small Droid [400,000]
Automoton [487,000]

actual funds is Funds: £53,166,586,877. i can understand it being a bit out due to development costs etc but more than twice out is a lot. is this a bug or just rediculously hard to code accuratley or something?

edit: i had a shed load of seeds which would have thrown it. after planting:

Stealth Troop Cost (or max funds): £195,564,662,500

Funds: £176,415,838,382

still a fairly large error but i dont know if the calc can account for land or not so maybe thats it

Re: nobreakspace

who needs the extension.......but buy more harvesters if you're afraid, and the spy and hax parses aren't essential.......

the only part that is very useful is that the spy parses make gathering alliance IDs so much easier

how much do development costs actually contribute though, im robo and have just finished all my techs (except for seed theives obviously :p) and have 1.5bil in cash, 4.5bil in seeds and 100mil in plants, yet its telling me my stealth troops score/max funds is 154bil. i wouldnt have thought developments would make such a huge difference.

From the manual:
Total value of completed developments (base cost), divide by 2500

That'll give you the score you have from devs. You can multiply that answer by 500 to see how much cash it would take to give the same score, meaing you can take that away from the nobreakspace fund estimate to get a more accurate answer.

Re: nobreakspace

hmm. apparently my score from developments is equal to 140bil in cash. i never would have thought it would be that much. anyway seems ive solved it so thanks mattheus. polo, any chance u can remove development score form the hack? it doesnt seem like it would be any more tricky to code than the value of staff etc. but maybe it is.
