I thought this was a 'getting older and ending up with more stuff to do' problem, than specifically steam...
I've got a handful of games I bought for the xBox (360) that I've still yet to get round to playing!!

I got gta 5 for my birthday, Riptide & Max Payne 3 at Xmas and I still haven't finished any of them. F*cking dark souls.

Dead Island Riptide? I keep meaning to buy that. I loved the first one.

It's hilariously brilliant fun. The new fisting specialist has the most awesome takedown move.

in the first one I was the Chinese blade woman, and she had an awesome special move where you knock them down and then jump on their face and their head explodes. It was incredibly satisfying :p

I'm currently doing this on Riptide. She's a bit annoyingly fragile, though.

I keep meaning to play this, but there's no chance that The Fisting Specialist is as fun as I think it would be.

I pre-ordered the first dead island but it was plagued with launch day issues so I never got into it at all. Think its worth another try?

What spare time I have is easily spent on Dota2, but the prospect of the immense vault of games just in front of me is alluring to say the least.

Darryl: Yes. Yes it is. Seriously.

Macky: Yes. This one is devoid of the failures of the first outing.

Like most games it isn't perfect, but it is great fun. I really don't see how you can't like an open-world RPG where you basically just go around curb-stomping the undead.

Ach, we have the same problem. I've promised myself that I wouldn't buy another game until I finish playing Dota 2, but ignore it and buy games anyway :p

Still reaaaaaaaaaaally not sure how people can enjoy DotA but won't buy Day Z! Most intuitive game concept ever!

This is a total aside, but since Matt mentioned it I thought I'd add my two cents on Pokemon.

My brother plays (somewhat) competitively online (as in, not through a game cartridge) and he has the same complaint about decreased viability of older pokemon.

The later games in the series have introduced some serious stat inflation problems. Most of the pokemon from generations one and two have become nonviable due to new pokemon being released with similar (or better) move sets. Check smogon for info on the (non-)competitive pokemon if you're interested.

The whole Fairy type really threw the competitive community a loop too. They thought they were all just normal, stone faced, lady killers. Turns out, some of them (I'm looking at you, Jigglypuff) were just fairies in disguise.

Ontopic: My steam account is woefully underfed. Currently, it's got the Gothic pack (Gothic 1, 2, expansion for 2, 3, expansion for three, and 4) and Portal. Oh, I have the whole orange box, but I never play TF2 and once you've played through Halflife a few times it gets boring.

I also have a game called Indigo Prophecy from a few years back. It was supposed to have a really great story, but unfortunately the game client kept crashing when I would get past the intro section. Maybe I should try to diagnose that issue at some point :p

Edit: Oh, and I've got DotA 2, but for the life of me I can't get interested in it. I'd rather play old school final fantasy than that ****.

you could always gift me portal. i have the classic pack (half lives, all the spin offs, source, etc, tf2) but didn't include portal or portal 2 ;)

just picked up a tower defence/ rpg hybrid game for under 2 bucks from a weekend sale. haven't gotten into it yet, but hope it's fun.

i picked up sanctum, 2 and super santcum td, but that is a td/first person shooter hybrid (at least as it was billed). i've not started on that either.

but it was defenders of something or rather. got all 4 of those games for a grand total of $8 and some change. god i love steam sales.

Slightly off-topic, but Dead Island is now free on xbox live if anyone cares. I've played it through once already but I'm going to play it again.

If anyone wants to play co-op with me that would be awesome. It's even more fun than single-player.
