So today my laptop exploded in uni. I've had it for quite a long time so figured it might be time to buy a new one..

I don't really care about what it can do except it has to play DotA2 :)

Quick search of the web gave me this website, what do you guys think?

Have you checked out newegg.com? Lots of laptops on there for decent prices as well as user reviews for most of their items.

Only one I might consider out of your list is the Inspiron if you're looking for out of the box being able to play Dota 2 although hd graphics cards are not very good, they can get the job done.

Well the Dell for $400 features Intel HD Graphics 4400. Which of course is pretty f*cking ****. However it would seem to be apparently better than the rest on offer on that list. In fact, it seems perfectly capable of playing Dota 2 at low settings.

According to this post, the minimum specs are a 3.0GHz Pentium 4 and a NVidia 660 or better (which is pretty bloody old, and not as good as the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400).

They are some pretty low specs, but I wouldn't go any lower than the Dell Inspiron 15. I'm guessing $400 is your limit?

Actually, the Inspiron 15 seems to hit the recommended system requirements pretty well. If you're only gonna play Dota 2 I think you will be pretty safe with that laptop.

And I definitely would not get anything with a Celeron (I can't believe they still make those).

They don't still make them Tim, it was overproduction on pretty much all of the Pentium and Celeron chips due to them thinking they wouldn't be able to make any more advanced chips for a further 6 years! Hilarious.

I'd be very wary of how you treat laptops of that value - I was an insurance assessment engineer that specialised in laptop and tower claims for Aviva (a big insurance company here in the UK), so I know which models and makes are absolute trash. Just be careful of constantly keeping it at high heat levels, and invest in an ice gel mat to place under it (without covering the exhaust gaps of course!), and you should do fine.

Hey! Thanks for the tips!

I spent the better part of four hours last night taking apart my laptop and putting it back together again (absolutely pain with Studio 1555 as i only wanted to get to my fan..)

It seems to be working for now, fingers crossed, so I'm gonna try and squeeze another year out of it :p

You won't find a better Graphics-equipped laptop for under £400 than one that contains an Intel 4400. You pay for what you get.

Most are also not upgradable either. Most are attached to the motherboard.
