In a similar theme to the diplomacy thread, I've come across a site that allows multiplayer advance wars games online: http://awbw.amarriner.com/

If you haven't played it, advance wars was a gameboy game, but in many ways it works very similarly to diplomacy. Turn based, create units and move them around the map to take strategic points and fight other units. The strategy of the game is in the placement of your units rather than in-battle decisions; you have very little control over the performance in battle beyond choosing where and what they fight against. It's fairly simple to get the hang of, but incredibly fun :p

The advantages this site has over the diplomacy site is greater customisation and greater depth. We're free to have as many or as few players in a game as we want, on a greater choice of maps and with a greater choice of units, and with either no formal alliances ie relying on diplomacy, or with formal alliances at the start of the game. And you have to take into consideration things such as unit strengths/weaknesses, terrain, CO powers, and supplies.

If you haven't come across advance wars before, this is what it looks like on the gameboy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfPftvUX1Po
I can't comment on how this site compares until someone registers and plays me :p

If you're an advance wars vet: this site has units/COs/powers etc up to the first DS game, (Dual Strike?), but specific units/powers etc. can be disabled if you don't like them.

So if you wanna play, whether in a big 8 man multiplayer game or a 1v1, in a rapid turn game or a slow game, register your interest here and we'll try to get some games going :)

Oooo... I've not played that on the gameboy, but I've played something similar as a single player online flash game.
Might take a took :)

Me and CF are battling it out atm on a bridge map. who shall control the seas? who shall control the bridge?!

CF has opted for a navy/ expensive power+ CO
Hiuey has opted for a navy/ cheap CO

Having played a game against Hiuey; the interface isn't anywhere near as polished as on the gameboy. When you move a unit, you don't see it walk along, it just teleports, and when you fight another unit, the HP just gets knocked off, you don't get the little battle clip. Also, you don't see your opponents moves happening in real time whilst you're waiting for them to complete their turn, you have to keep refreshing if you want to keep right up to date. Also, because turns are consecutive, rather than simultaneous as in diplomacy,t games will drag on for EVER if you aren't both logged in at the same time and prepared to put in at least half an hour in a sitting.

It works perfectly well though, and is lots of fun if both players are able to not take too long over their turns. So if anyone wants a game lemme know!

Last game, CF (Kanbei) vs Hiuey (Hachi), ended in Hiuey resigning. CF opted for a large number of basic units at the start and kept Hiuey's fewer mega-tanks running around the map while CF took control of the seas. Hiuey gave up on his mass megatank tactic and attempted to push up the middle with a large force of rockets, but resigned after several turns of a gruelling war of attrition in the centre of the map, when it became clear he was being flanked on either side from the sea. And that he needed to be getting up in 6 hours....

im tempted to try simultaneous turns but it might get a tad hectic and unfair as it'll just be first shoot wins :p should be better with more people.

After a 13 days. the first one to go is Kingdroid! taken out by the majestic Hiuey in a sneak T copter and APC infantry rush whilst distracting KD with his masses of AA tanks and Rockets/Artillery.

I think the lesson has been learnt. Fear Sami's Victory March SCOP!

On another note, Souls, after a long range battle of shadows and rockets, seems to have battered CF back to his base and is now trying to take out Hiuey who was busy killing Kingdroid.

CF, who seemed to be overwhelmed on all sides, has caught a lucky break from KD's demise. Maybe now he will have the time to rebuild and strike back?
