Why are there so many of them? Has someone been giving them Viagra and making them reproduce? Really? They just sprout like mushrooms after a good rain, it's ridiculous.

STOP MAKING NEW THREADS

There's a reason we have THREADS, so we can have multiple people present their point of view, you don't need to make a whole goddamn new thread to present your point of view, no matter how valid or useful your suggestion is. Just stop making new threads explaining your point of view, when you can just post in a previous already well established and discussion filled thread. Surely it's easier that way, so you've consolidated all the discussion in ONE thread, instead of 4-5 where people just end up repeating themselves and going in circles in 4 different threads. Absolute utter tard infested madness.

however, the main problem i'm seeing here is that people are simply regurgitating the same tired old suggestions.

Can you please all use the same threads, so that you can present your idea, hopefully having read through the other suggestions and then presenting some sort of synthesis of (what you consider to be) the good elements from other suggestions, combining it with your suggestion.

It just saves old people like me time when i don't have to repeat myself in multiple damn threads. Bloody hell, I appreciate that you're trying to reduce the dependency on contactability (imo never going to happen barring substantial game mechanic changes) and reducing the rather high activity requirements. But seriously, can we all do me a favour and stop making new threads every time one of you brain dead zombie loving morons comes up with a 'new' idea?

[11:41:57] <Alcibiades> seriously
[11:42:00] <Alcibiades> another ****ing thread
[11:42:04] <Alcibiades> on contactability
[11:42:06] <Alcibiades> and activity
[11:42:14] <Alcibiades> one might be concerned that they're reproducing
[11:42:30] <@[R]Martin> "Those who spend time on the game should NOT be at the top, help me be better by putting in less effort with ingame mechanics"

With a cursory use of the search function (which all of you knuckle dragging neanderthal types should be capable of doing) you can find three recent threads about activity and contactability which all should have been merged (This is not a dig at Mods just to clear that up) by the thread creators themselves. Just why write in a new thread? It doesn't guarantee you 'more exposure' and in point of fact you're supposed to look for identical/similar threads before posting a new one of your own.

Thanks for reminding me!

I have a new suggestion about contactability and activity that I've been meaning to post.

I've haven't replied to any of the other threads, but since this is a gripe thread, I'll unleash my fury here :p

OMG!!! It's quite simple with anything in life! The more time you spend on it, the better you'll do!

If you're willing to put the time and effort into a job, then you'll do well and progress up the career ladder!
You can't go "But I don't want to work evenings or weekends... can't we change the way we do business so suit around my football club matches?"

If you're willing to put the time and effort into cunnilingus, then you're more likely to have a more satisfied other half and a better relationship. You can't go "Not tonight love, I've got football to watch", and then wonder why you end up with a failed relationship.

If you're willing to put the time and effort into the game, you will do well - if you're not willing or able to, then you'll do less well.

Seriously...
*sigh*

I don't know how many times I've had this argument used against me so I'll give it a shot.

You can't compare real life to the game SG.

Since Azzer asked players to make a new thread in suggestions/discution how to deal with activity problem i can see 3 new different suggestions.

One wants 7.5 minute ticks and increase of attack range
One wants increase in tick length to 20 minutes
And finally one wants increased insurance and bounty.

Maybe you think all 3 should be discussed under the same thread, but since the suggestions are different it would be quite difficult to follow who agreed with what point and also shows lack of respect for original poster to come in his thread and start a new discution that has no connection with his suggestion ?
You want one guy suggesting 7.5 minute ticks, a discution starts and another jumps in saying how they should talk about bounty& insurance instead ? Or they take turns in same thread talking about different things ?
I agree similar suggestions could be merged by moderators, but just because 2 threads are both giving suggestions about units or how to reduce activity demands doesn't mean they are alike :)
We have official mods who are capable to notice if a new thread needs merging with an old one ..

woah, anger issues.

My thread had nothing to do with tick length, which is what two of the others were about, so putting my suggestion in there wouldn't have made sense. Also, if you'd read it, you'd know that activity is only one of a few issues I was dealing with, again not making it suitable to post in one of the other topics.

So in effect you have three threads about the same topic, and you feel you need to go on a rampage. I'd agree that two about tick length isn't really necessary, but otherwise you don't really have a point.

I'd also point out that those other three threads were made by newish/reticent forums members, who even if they got shot down, at least sparked some sort of discussion.

And we wonder why the forums are a pile of flaming crap.

As for stevegod, swing and a miss mate. You've stated the obvious, which suprisingly is... obvious, and missed the point.

Anger issues: lol this is a gripe thread, better to have it loosed here than in those threads surely? Tsk tsk.

If Azzer wanted a set of ideas on contactability and activity then he should've (or some staff member could have) set up a thread saying: "Suggestions for reducing Activity and Contactability" and then we could've had a proper discussion in one thread as opposed to stretched over at least three or more. If we're going for unified ideas, i'd prefer to have them all in one place (i.e. thread, not subforum).

*shrug* New members aren't exempt from using their brains either CFalcon. I highly doubt this is their first time on an internet forum, everyone knows how to search for other threads instead of just posting your own blithering blather without so much as a glance through other directly related threads.

In your suggestions post you could've simply taken your post about activity/contactability out and put it in the "wished for but sadly lacking" unified Acitivty/Contactability thread. not to mention your thread was labeled "Another Activity [...] suggestion" presumably you can forgive me for lumping it in with reducing activity and addressing the activity issue.

:D

I know you're smart enough to realise this doesn't make sense :) so I won't insult you by explaining.

And I'm not arguing your sentiment, there are 4 threads that should really be 2. I'm debating your method of protest. I'm sure I'm not the only one who 'mistook' giant friggin red writing for anger. ;)

It'd be much better if he created a centralized area for this kind of discussion, instead of having random discussions pop up everywhere as you say :D

And the big red writing is to make sure people read it, you know, just in case they skip over everything else, there is at least one thing they won't be able to miss! :D

It's a gripe thread... since when did they need to be relevant to any point?

You can't compare real life to the game SG.
I just did, and you very much can.

When players are playing 'truely' for the win, it goes beyond playing a game, and more around revolving your life around events in the game. Timing attacks so you can send as you leave home, and check at attacking for 3 as you arrive at a mates house or work. You have a mobile that is capable of full-screen web-browsing, and when your ally has incoming, you nip to the toilet while you're hammer in a night-club to send defence. You set your alarm not to wake up in the morning, but to get a middle-of-the-night attack out in the hope of stealing land off someone that's been in your range for a while but you just haven't been able to get past their defences during their alliances active period.

When that happens, the game can encapsule your entire life - if only for a few weeks before the round settles down. Therefore it is very easy to compare the game to real life in terms of picking a priority in life and putting your effort into it.

I don't remember who brought up this argument (I think it was Leah?) but it's quite a good one. What you just described is about 10% of the player base. Azzer has a duty to keep the other 90% in mind.

If something is being brought up over and over in different threads...hmmm...maybe there's a problem. The player base majority of this game are not those who spend 18 hours on it a day. Those who spend 18 hours, like the ones above, are simply more vocal. Look how many ID's there are created in this game. Now count how many of you are "ftw". We casual gamers win the majority!!!!!!!! WHOOAAA!!!!! Now focus on fixing the activity and contactability issues so we can see the number of ids go from 1300 to 10,000!

Iambuttnugget should be slapped. The game is part of real life (just the ongoings in the game aren't) and therefor they don't need to be compared as the game is part of real life.

It's a tick based game.
Regardless of any changes that can be made, those who are online for more ticks will always do better. And there will always be that small minority who will go the extra mile.

The only changes that will make any difference to activity or contactability, would be to change it away from being a tick based game. Something which I very doubt would happen.

Erm, quite a generalization that I'm not sure is quite accurate.
Then please try and persuade me otherwise :p

I'll elaborate on my 'generalisation'. ;)
A tick based game is one which is based on time. So to be successful at the game, it's not just based on the decisions that you make during the tick before the game progresses like turn based games, but instead it also matters how many ticks you're 'playing' the game.
More activity increases the probability of doing well - it's as simple as that.

By making any alterations to the length of the ticks, it will make very little difference, as there will always be the minority who will put in that extra time, regardless of the tick length.

(And all suggestions relating to attack range, changes to bounty/insurance, or other ways to improve game play for those less active, have absolutely nothing to do with activity/contactability)

Very general and a pitiful attempt to close the door on the subject.
What more is there to say? :p

I really can't believe that you really believe that.

And the point isn't to give the less active players the chance to win, it's to make there stay more enjoyable, and to make sure they have troops to wake up to.
