Jorizz made a thread along these lines and I picked up a couple of pretty good albums that I hadn't heard of from it, so I thought I'd revive the question for a new year: what were your favourite albums of 2008? Sadly I realised as I started to write this that I've spent most of the year discovering old bands and not paying attention to new releases so I can't think of many great albums this year:

British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music?
Does It Offend You, Yeah? - You Have No Idea What Youre Getting Yourself Into
Cage The Elephant - Cage The Elephant

With honourable mentions to:

Blood Red Shoes - Box of Secrets
The Long Blondes - Couples
Kings of Leon - Only by the Night
The Kooks - Konk

And song of the year?
Pendulum's remix of Violet Hill :D

More importantly, what were YOU listening to?

Damn i love these kind of threads.
Love new music.

That kings of leon albumn is a classic and the pendulum re-mix in high quality in a club is - o - m - g!
:D

This year been quite a bit of good music about ...

Favourites are:

Oasis - I'm outta time

The whole albumn is imense ... didn't like it at first but when i sat down and listened to it properly it was awesome and its one of those you can play over and over again and not get bored!

The new pendulum album "In silico" is awesome aswell for any drum and bass fans here is the most popular song on it:

Pendulum - Propane Nightmares

And another i outplayed about 100 times in a night:

The Last shadow Puppets - The age of the understatement

There was no music worth listening to that was created in 2008.

Re: Music of 2008

My friends almost hit me when I said the following statement at the pub, but 'The Script's album also named 'The Script' is brilliant, been a while since I found an album where I didn't just listen to 2-3 songs from it.

Again I've not paid much attention to what has been out this year, but I have to admit I am beginning to like Neo a fair bit with his newer stuff.

Best albums:
Coldplay - Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends
The Script - The Script

Best songs:
Razorlight - Wire to Wire

I'm sure there is a lot I've forgotten. These were just the first ones that came to mind.

Best albums:
Sad, but it seems this year I've added quite a few groups to my playlists, but never an entire album (In Silico and Konk excluded, but they would never stand up to the albums I posted last year. :/).
And MGMT - Oracular Spectacular should be added to the list of In Silico and Konk, maybe the best of the three. :)

Best songs (Mainly in the dance and trance department):
Pryda - Pjanoo (I'm sorry, I can't help, love it :()
Orjan Nilsen - La Guitarra
MGMT - Kids (Soulwax remix)
Pendulum - Propane Nightmares
Ferry Corsten - Made of Love.

I'll probably find quite a few more, but these are the first I can think of.

edit:
I want to add these guys as one of the discoveries I made this year:
The Subs (check "Music is the new Religion" and "Kiss my Trance", great imho)

edit 2: I'm sure Twigley knows this one, gotta say I love it: Chase and Status - Pieces http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOYYeRv-_oc

Re: Music of 2008

Metallica's Death Magnetic album was a pleasant surprise, the production was pretty bad but it was a lot better than anything they've made in recent memory.

From the land of viking death metal, Amon Amarth's Twilight of the Thunder God was pretty good stuff, and the title track is brutal in a very good way (video for those who are interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eABVwEgzIss).

Also in the land of the heavy, Overcome from All That Remains was pretty good. Not as heavy as their earlier stuff, a lot more singing. I'm not sure that's really a good thing, but it's still pretty solid.

Iced Earth is one of my favorite bands, and I was hoping their new album The Crucible of Man would be awesome. It wasn't. I'd call it horribly disappointing.
