This things is stuck in my notifications and won't go away.

Someone said something nasty about me on my profile and it says "this message has been moderated" or something like that. I haven't moderated it? How can I make this notification go away?

Egh, I didn't want it deleted...

Why are mods modding the stuff people write on my profile at all?

FFS I am serious, if someone insults me in *MY* own profile, I see no reason for the mods to remove the insults if I have considered it is ok to stay :evil::evil:

Hell, punish the one who left the message if you have to, but why deleted it???

If it was against Forum rules then the mods had the responsibility to remove it, however if it was simply a mean remark.... I tend to agree with f0xx

Do I really need to link the endless stream of mod complaint threads? I believe we've covered this topic before.

In all honesty, I actually took your post as rhetorical. You know the answer.

A flame is a flame wherever it is on the forums...its still against the rules.

I dont know what it actually said so i wont comment on this specifically...but Tana is right. If it was against forum rules it was right that it was removed...i would assume (again i didnt see it so just speculating) that it was specifically against forum rules rather than just being "a bit mean". :)

Pinpower clearly.

Atm, the messages are public tho. If it was a pm i would understand being a bit pissed about it. But as the messages are public in a public forum, they should be moderated just as any other message on the forums will be.

^^ The winner. And as a moderator there is a link to view only the newest posted visitor messages, so it's easy as cake to look them over once a day or so

Everything's been answered by Pin & harriergirl - "visitor messages" are a public system, like a blog. In the same way if one of you made your public profile something abusive, we'd edit it out - sure sure, it's "your" profile - but anything that's public, is public, and subject to forum rules. If you made your homepage be a link to a pornography site or warez site and we spotted in - bang, forum rules apply, "your" account or not. Hell technically PM's are also all subject to forum rules - there's no stipulation saying "If you want to be grossly abusive and horrible, feel free to PM somebody you don't like, it's none of the mods business because PM's are private and so you can do what you want!" but of course mods can't see PM's, so in this case it's up to the recipient to decide if it's abusive and report it, if they are upset by it.

I was absolutely flabberghasted by the topic, the nature of it, and the accompanying "Yeah those damned useless mods, deleting posts that breach forum rules which everyone can see.... grrrr, they're so useless, they should totally leave publically viewable flames and abuse!", that I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry.

One or two of the replies (pre-editing in particular) were priceless too, nice one guys :p

If ever there was an example of "Mods can't win", this is a prime one.

Thread of the day!
