I don't see why getting it more than once in one round would help you, you only get the points once no matter what.

Keeps changing ...
50 last round due to server crash, 100 before that for a few rounds, 25 some rounds before that.

Yes. 50 is a fair number. Top 100 was pretty pointless. A quarter of the game was portalling at that point. 50 ensures people outside of the top alliance have a chance of portalling.
