Thought I'd revive this thread because I was looking for inspiration for films to watch and stumbled across this - I watched 'Memento' last night after reading it suggested here - I found it an awesome yet confusing film, but I'm guessing that's the point :shocked!:

Anyways my top 5 are:

#1 Donnie Darko
#2 Dodgeball
#3 Anchorman
#4 Gran Torino
#5 WALL-E

There are both recent films I've found awesome and my old favourites here.

In no particular order:

Run, Lola, Run
LOTR Trilogy (I'm counting them as one)
Pan's Labyrinth
For Your Eyes Only
Ice Age (I'd be lying if I didn't put that here :p)

3) Once Upon a Time in America
4) The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen)

It was tough coming up with a top 5 list, so:

8} Bourne Trilogy
9) A Beautiful Mind

I could post many more that I love but I won't :p

Memorable quote from Evolution:

[an alien bug is crawling inside Block's leg]
Dr. Allison Reed: What are you gonna do?
Dr. Paulson: We might have to amputate.
Harry Block: Whoa, Doc! Don't take the leg! Ira, don't let them take my leg.
Ira Kane: Isn't there anything else you can do? He thinks he's an athlete.
Nurse Tate: Doctor, look!
Dr. Paulson: It's headed for his testicles.
Harry Block: Take it! Take it! Take the leg!

4) The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen)

... What. A. Film.

I can't believe I forgot that :p

Yeah, truly amazing film. I wonder, do you English "dub" the language into English for Das Leven der Anderen, or use subtitles? Because one thing I was incredibly frustrated about at Valkyrie, was that the movie wasn't made in German, which it clearly should've been.

It's German with subtitles in the English market- at least my copy is. I think most foreign language films I have seen are subtitled- Amelie, Lola rennt, Pan's Labyrinth, Persepolis etc.

Oldboy
Usual Suspects
City of God
Memories of Murder
POkemon the Movie! (jks)

Highly recommend the korean films Oldboy and Memories of murder - defo different to any other films i have seen. In addition Memories of murder is based on a real life story which makes it all the more realistic/interesting.

I don't really have a top 5 as I always forget loads of films, but here's a few that come to mind:
Cidade de Deus (probably my favourite non UK/US film)
Blood Diamond
Into the Wild
The Beach
The Man from Earth (exceptionally good low budget film)
Fight Club
American History X
Banlieue 13

On a slight tangent, the most overrated films, imo, are:
Enemy at the Gates (Russians and Germans with American, English and Australian accents doesn't work - storyline was good but the acting terrible - would have been much better with Russian and German actors + subtitles)
Sin City

See the first time i watched Sin City i couldnt even finish it, really didnt think much of it. But some mates made me watch it a few months later and it actually is an awesome film. Wouldnt be in my top 5 but definately worth a watch IMO.
